Ulrich meets his sister Agathe after the death of their father. Brother and sister are strangers, as they have barely seen each other since childhood. Nevertheless, they are still connected in a special way. Soon an intense bond develops between them, a relationship that has both mystical and incestuous sides to it. Although they may not speak of what is between them, brother and sister nevertheless seek to do so indirectly. They talk so as to avoid having to look one another in the eye. Ultimately, Ulrich and Agathe's utopian world disintegrates.
