Originally intended as a preliminary study, 'On the Concept of the Face Regarding the Son of God' developed into an exceptionally powerful performance in its own right. What you see happening before your eyes is both painfully concrete and mysteriously abstract. You look at a life-size face of 'Salvator Mundi' (1465) by the Italian painter Antonello da Messina. You hear faint sounds in which the name of Jesus is repeated like a mantra. However, do not expect to see a mystical performance. Together with Jesus, you watch a scene between father and son, helplessness, physical decay and ultimate sadness. Watching itself makes us both accomplices and alone. Romeo Castellucci says: "Seeing your own daily life as a performance with you as a spectator: this is loneliness."
