Mary Oliver, Tristan Honsinger and Ernst Glerum together make up the string section of Misha Mengelberg's ICP Orchestra. At Free Music these three virtuosos are given carte blanche in every possible combination. French guitarist Noël Akchoté, rarely heard in our part of the world, is also being given a free hand. Drones? Acoustic? Electric? Songs? Pure noise? His concerts are always unpredictable, even in their sometimes theatrical presentation. The second day of Free Music is brought to a close by a dream duo: Fred Van Hove and Sunny Murray, one of the founders of the European improvisation movement together with a pioneer of American free music. But in the first place two sprightly born musicians in an unprecedented encounter.
In the corridors:
- exhibition by Han Bennink
- screening of 'Afijn' (long version, 90 min), film about Misha Mengelberg by Jellie Dekker
