At the opening concert of a cycle that places new music from Flanders in an international setting, you will be listening to nothing but world premieres!
Blindman looked around for four composers from Belgium and abroad each to write a new work for the four saxophones and four percussionists of the ensemble, and to take as their theme 'whiplash'. Aside from the opportunity to manipulate this octet's broad spectrum with the use of electronics, central to this project was a conceptual approach to 'thinking music'.
The composers approached - the Italian Riccardo Nova, the Dutch Mayke Nas and the Flemish Wim Henderickx and Frederik Neyrinck - each represent at least one of these points of departure. Energetic fireworks alternate with microscopic textures. Orthodox ways of playing are varied with new techniques and theatrical performance forms. The leading light of Blindman, Eric Sleichim, has also written a new work for this special concert, which was created entirely in deSingel.
An evening to prick up your ears!
