What knowledge do generations pass on to each other? This is the question that lies at the heart of Cláudia Dias' new creation, 'Willingness to will'. The Portuguese choreographer has twice been invited to participate in our Bouge B dance and performance festival. Indeed, she so impressed audiences with her powerful, sensitive and poetic performances that we decided to co-produce her next production. Together they look at what they have learned from each other, or what they haven't. What intrigues Dias here is the way people and societies acquire knowledge and grow. Even though she does not regard the situation in her home country as particularly rosy: 'All around me I see a permanent infantilisation of people. As if we cannot grow. And because we cannot grow, we are not responsible for what we do and don't do. This is our greatest tragedy.' Dias definitely raises the bar very high for herself. Each new creation must be a step forward in relation to its predecessor. Her ultimate goal is the final production: the performance that is so perfect there is no point in creating another.
