'Curating the Campus' is a sculpture park in the making. Since 2001 we have offered a space to a leading artist whose work in one way or another enhances the mission or identity of deSingel.
In 1999, at the request of the Antwerp theatre-maker, stage designer, artist and author Jan Fabre (b. 1958, Antwerp), deSingel had a bronze statue installed on the roof of the building. 'The Man Measuring the Clouds' depicts a poetic gesture in which the artist is trying to measure the universe in order thereby to gain a hold over it. Versions of the same statue can also be seen on the roofs of SMAK in Ghent, the airport building in Zaventem and the Museum of the 21st Century at Kanazawa in Japan.
