Due to work on the new deSingel building, the library has for the time being been put in storage. At the end of 2010 the mirrored ‘Curating the Library’ container will be re-erected and the series of international talks resumed.
talks
Which books really make an impression on personalities from the worlds of art, science, design, music, literature and architecture? And what makes each work so special to them? Every month a philosopher, artist, choreographer, architect or other personality talks about their choice. This personal story is an invitation to discover new books or rediscover familiar works. You can even discuss the talk afterwards with the month’s contributor over a drink in the performer’s bar.

library
We record every talk so you can also watch it again at a later date. You can watch any of the DVDs in the ‘Curating’ library, which is in the corridor next to the Blue Hall. You can of course also browse through the books there, now an extensive collection.
The library is in a mirrored volume created by the artist Richard Venlet (Untitled, 2002, 408 x 303 x 283 cm). This volume was made for the Belgian entry in the twenty-fifth Sao Paulo Biennale (Brazil) and was given a permanent home at deSingel for the Curating the Library project.
The library is open during exhibition hours and before and after performances.

interdisciplinary, cultural, collective memory
The sum of all the guests’ book choices enables the library to offer an associative succession of portraits and it is thereby developing into an interdisciplinary collective cultural memory. With this initiative we hope to enhance our mission as a hybrid institution and to bring you into contact with other disciplines, views and visions.

From 14 March to 13 May 2007 Curating the Library was part of the ‘Société Anonyme’ exhibition at Le Plateau/Frac Ile-de-France. The archives containing all the DVD recordings were available in a display there. Six talks took place on a specially designed platform on three Sunday afternoons.
