Varinia Canto Vila wants to talk about desire. She does so by means of a succession of unfinished movements which she compares to a building site. 'Building sites attract us,' this Chilean choreographer says, 'because they show us buildings that are only halfway complete. The 'halfway' state is possibly the best moment to get a view of people's intentions and desires.' Varinia Canto Vila took a dance course at the Universidad de Chile and later at P.A.R.T.S. After her studies she worked with several choreographers including Meg Stuart. She invariably made an impression as an exceptional performer with a unique stage presence. For 'During Beginning Ending', a creation coproduced by deSingel, she did her first choreography, for a solo in which she herself dances.
